I came to the same conclusion. As I improved in my rile shooting skills and after experimenting with a few different LPVOs I decided that inside of 200 yards a dot was still king of the castle if I cared about getting shots on paper as fast as I can and not shooting the smallest group I could.

For me 200+ yards is where the LPVO starts to offer serious benefits and because I don't have an opporotunity to do that all too often and because realistically if I need to use a rifle for defense it's going to be well inside 50 yards I run dots on most of my guns.

I say 200 but it's more like 200-ish depending on the day and how rusty I am. Realistically a sliding scale based on how large the target is, how tired I am, how heavy is the gun, how hot or cold it is, is it the start or end of a shooting session etc.

So the big launch, as many already surmised, is an ACRO for shotguns.

I a curious whether Aimpoint sees this as a product that will convert wing shooters with traditional shotguns to a dot, or for tactical use on a vent rib shotgun.

Some have asked for Aimpoint to bring out a LPVO. What I would like to see Aimpoint do, is bring out more innovative red dot optics for handguns and long guns.
Likes pretty much everything in every caliber.

I would add weight, cost, and battery life to reasons I like the red dot.

I would guess the former just based on how they have marketed the S1. Maybe I'm experiencing early onset fuddism or just don't know enough about wing shooting outside my own experience, but I see that approach as a non-starter.

I would seriously consider putting an S1 or this new ACRO version on a home defense 870, and would never, ever think of putting it on my hunting over/under. I know DB has written favorably about shooting clays with an S1 as a beginner, but people who already shoot clays/birds I see as being less open to that idea. It runs counter to how we've been taught to shoot flying things (no visual reference other than the target at all, hitting is entirely based on physical index of the gun so that it's always pointing where you're looking, etc.). And no, I don't think this is going to end up being the same as the irons vs. optics debates we've had regarding rifles and pistols, where I very much fall on the optic side. I'm open to being corrected, but I just don't see it.

    9 MOA according to Aimpoint.

This will go excellent on my non-existent Light-20 Auto5 project that gets fed from similarly non-existent, but recently announced, 20ga Federal Flite Control buckshot.

Well that's great but also kind of frusterating. I want that big dot for pistols. If they threw a 9MOA dot on the standard ACRO I'd buy one for my pistol.

and none of us will learn anything about hopes and Aimpoint from this.

Next time, we'll all be just as excited, and just as disappointed.

Back to that previous SHOT show, I seem to recall that either at that one or the previous Orlando one (there were two there, right?) they had the Aimpoint minis all on shotguns and bows. Never even occurred to them to market them to the timmies. Hell, I think they were even all silver?

I don't have a problem with a dedicated shotgun optic. I'm more disappointed with the hype for what's essentially a merf product. Just put the darned thing on the website and be done with it instead of wasting everyone's time with a countdown timer and all that.

Here is apparently another new product. It would be a nice partner with the Aimpoint Duty.

See, this is where I think they *do* need some hype

How is this different than the old one?
