Dan Wesson .45 acp TCP thoughts?

Looking hard at the Dan wesson TCP in .45 for carry. It features a lightweight frame and 4 inch bull barrel. I have read a few reviews that praise it and some say the recoil is uncomfortable.

It would be rotated with a few other pieces. I have a well put together Tisas Stingray in 9mm. I also have multiple compact double stack 9mm that I carry. I want something sexy and different. I'm also looking at the commander specialist in black they are more expensive for the duty coat.

Anyone carry one of these? What are your thoughts.

My experience with Dan Wesson 1911s has been very good.

I own a Dan Wesson Valor, and have found it to be an awesome handgun that I thoroughly enjoy. The quality level of fit-and-finish was exactly what I wanted and could afford at the time. If I had to carry a 1911 in 45ACP, although I would put it through it's paces a bit more, I would likely select it.

As far as carry rotations go, you might find these articles by the forum's founder Todd as something interesting to consider.

I own a DW Valor and a CZ1911A1 (made by DW). Both in .45acp. The Valor was my carry gun before arthritis forced my to dump the holy caliber for the 9mm. Dan Wesson makes an outstanding product. If you're just looking for something different and sexy, I'd go with a steel frame, if you’re wanting a .45. Honestly, if you’re desiring anything other than a full size five-inch pistol, ditch the .45 and go with the 9mm. An aluminum frame shorty in .45 isn't the biggest pass to Joyland, and chopped. 45s can have a host of issues to overcome.

I don't know if I could go through the headache again of trying to get a 1911 in 9mm to run reliably. They work good in a sterile environment but as you take them outside and run the snot out of them they can be a big disappointment. The mags are terrible even the expensive ones.

I ran 9mm 1911’s on duty for years and that’s not been my experience. Dan Wesson makes a good 9mm 1911.

    This is simply incorrect.

I own two Dan Wesson 1911 pistols, both in caliber .45 ACP

One is a full-size 5" Valor and the other is a 4.25" lightweight bobtail Guardian

The Valor is exactly as it came from the factory.

I sent the Guardian back to Dan Wesson several years ago and had the sights replaced with a Valor "Ledge" type rear and a brass bead front to match.

They are excellent guns. I carry the LW Guardian as an EDC quite frequently.

Zero problems, nice triggers, quite accurate, and dead-nuts reliable so far. I have had the Guardian for 11 years and the Valor for about 3 years.

    Highly recommended.
