That happened within the last 20 years or so, and it's been a big influx. Historically, Lewiston is full of French names, and hockey was the big sport.

Nothing that the news has reported, so far, indicates any of these ethnic issues are related to this shooting though.

Apparently there’s one possible match to the suspect who is a registered sex offender convicted of child, pornography, offenses in 2016.

There’s also information claiming that the suspect is an army vet, who recently retired after 20 years.

Looks like two individuals with the same name but different middle initials who live in the same general area and are born in the same year.

Based on open source, it’s hard to tell which is which. Given their year of birth is the suspect was convicted of a felony in 2016, they would not have been able to complete 20 years in the army.

Apparently, Lewiston Maine has become home to large numbers of middle eastern and Somali refugees.

I’m curious as to whether that will be a factor in this incident.
It’s looking like the suspect is an army or army reserve veteran with mental health history.

Latest blurbs suggest the Army guy with mental issues is the PODS the cops are looking for. Assuming the report if his being institutionalized fir making mass shooting threats are accurate, this will be yet another group of lives ended and shattered by our pathetic mental health system whose sole focus seems to be to milk patients if their copay and enrich pill makers.

    Condolences to the families.

I hear you. However, very few people who want to kill the world have a treatable mental illness that a pill, counseling, or hospital bed will fix.
I like my rifles like my women - short, light, fast, brown, and suppressed.

Agree 100%. Yet the professionals continue to pretend that take 2 and call me if you’re feeling like shooting up a school is the best approach to dealing with it.

This and many situations with similar coincidences show us it’s not working. Won’t pretend to know the solution, but one has to first admit it’s a problem before finding a solution. And I don’t think the very lucrative industry wants to admit it has a problem.

I’m sorry, but you are wrong. “The professionals” absolutely do not think this way.

Fair enough, as my own experiences with mental health issues are rather limited thankfully. But those experiences reinforce the take 2 and call me if you’re feeling like killing yourself or others. And we are talking about a suicidal patient.

If we really aren’t using that take 2 philosophy, then why do we have this guy out and about along with now how many cases of violent activity performed by folks on mood altering meds. Is it a case of the side effects being worse than the disease? Poor monitoring? Random discontinuation of meds…

We obviously have an issue in how we deal with mental illness. What is it and how do we approach solving it?

Legislation and not the medical profession prevents locking up lunatics who were once confined to insane asylums. The same laws protecting privacy of medical records extends this right to mentally ill persons. In my town the hospital system that owns the one and only residential treatment center has closed it. The reason is a $30 Million annual deficit. Most patients were indigent.

I offer no solution for reducing the number of mass shootings. I observed that until recently box stores sold AR's to any any persons at least 18 years old. Local box stores no longer sell them. I read here that 24% of guns made in the U.S. a couple years ago were AR's. I write this because we who buy, own, and use AR's are the persons who must defend owning these rifles. An otherwise intelligent person in my circle insists that "they" are staging these shootings so "they" can take our guns. He asserts that "they" made us wear masks so we would get used to being controlled. I read this shit on other forums. It scares me.
