    Thank you for the education. NOW I understand what CHOKE is. Now I'll go out and do a 40 yr pattern and see what I have on my Shotgun.

    @P.E. Kelley actually said,

    That's not how I do it, but that's not relevant.
    Much respect.

    Now, where can we buy your choke tubes?

    Thanks for a great video! Well timed for me as my sons and I are getting into sporting clays.

    I do have a question. How does one measure the internal diameter of their shotgun bore? I have recently started shooting Sporting Clays again and am going down rabbit holes regarding stock fit etc. In my process, I will be experimenting with different choke tubes and loads. I suspect I will need to know the internal diameter in order to plug the data/constriction standards from your video. By way of reference, I am running an 870 Remington in 12 gauge with a shortened (21 inch) vent rib barrel using Rem Choke tubes. I had Al Greco lengthen the forcing cone and polish the bore when he shortened the barrel and recut it for choke tubes.

    As a follow-on question, where within the bore is the diameter measured-chamber, mid bore, just behind the choke tube threads?

    Thanks in advance for your help with this.

    Bore mic is the best way ($$) From 100 Straight Products. You can get away with a telescoping gauge and a micrometer or caliper.

    Briley has a neat choke and chamber gauge that should work too.

    Yes, the bore section before the choke section is good enough.

    Ultimately you can just shoot it at a pattern board at 40 yards and glean enough info to know what choke you have and want.

    My chokes are Saiga/Vepr style external chokes. m22x.75 thread pitch. I created them to fill the void for use on those guns and more pointedly for the Genesis Arms Gen12 shotgun.

    Mr. Kelley:

    Many thanks. I'll get a pattern board set up and start checking loads. Thanks again.

    Mr. Kelley, excellent video. Thank you for sharing. A couple of quick questions on barrel length, how much influence does length have vs. the choke used? Will a 14" cylinder bore be less effective than one with an 18" barrel?

    My SBS (Rem 870) has a 14" barrel that is marked cylinder bore. I'd like it to shoot tighter patterns so I can reach out a bit farther. I was thinking on having it threaded for chokes, IC initially but after watching your video I'm not sure that is the choke I need.

    I'm also interested to hear what impacts, if any, there are with shooting slugs as you go with tighter chokes. Thanks for any input you can share!
