Good morning,

Like the title says, anyone with experience loading for a short 308 gas gun?

I just got back a 16” BA mid length barrel I had shortened to 13.5”. My “standard” .308 load I’ve been shooting through my 16” gas gun is 42.1 gr of Varget with a 175 HPBT in LC brass. Velocity is right at 2400 fps, it’s pretty easy shooting, and doesn’t beat up the brass too much. I don’t shoot over 100 very often, but this load should be plenty fine out to 500 yards.

I’m only shooting steel and paper right now, but looking for a good general purpose load out to 500. Should I stick with 175’s (less velocity loss compared to lighter bullets) or go down to something like 155 hpbt’s (higher velocity).

Powders I have on hand include TAC, Varget, 2230, IMR 4064.
