Russia today is not Soviet Russia. As of a matter of fact, i could argue that USA is way more socialist country than Russia today. Putin was supported by elites back in the days because he was viewed as the only alternative to the communists retaking the power after the 90s.
American left has always supported Socialism and Soviet regime regardless of the atrocities of the Soviet regime. Angela Davis was a hero back in the days for example. I am not even talking about Bernie. This is why many people in Russia (and some other former socialist countries) don’t think that the left has any rights to lecture them on anything.

Eating a quick bowl of soup. Headed to Yale when I finish!
I've seen every crazy Lefty thing you can imagine on the campus, plus a lot more. Things like full professor who asked IT to put a bigger hard drive in his PC and move the data to the new drive. Big mistake! Drive was full due to child porn.
I seem to recall the Ivy Leagues (or their Euro equivalent) being a playground for well heeled baby marxists since about the time Karl was still cadging meals off of Freddie Engels.
There’s a line attributed to Irving Kristol or one of his crew observing a Communist group meeting at one of the Ivies in the late 50s: “… every one here is some family’s tragedy.”

That's the democracy part of the democratic party. Russia has a parliamentary democratic government. Things are a bit different there however. There is no separation of power as we have here.
The US was never intended to be a democracy. It was intended by the folks that wrote the constitution to be a republic.
On the page where McHenry records the events of the last day of the convention, September 18, 1787, he wrote: “A lady asked Dr. Franklin Well Doctor what have we got a republic or a monarchy – A republic replied the Doctor if you can keep it.” Then McHenry added: “The Lady here alluded to was Mrs. Powel of Philada.” The journal is at the Manuscript Division of the Library of Congress.
