Will a bead blast finish hold up?
I’m seriously eyeballing the Colt KC, but the bright polish stainless is too garish for me.
Or would a DIY job with the proper abrasive do as well or better?

For a while. Then high portions of the gun get shiny again. When it get annoying, you bead blast it again.
Here are two of my three stainless S&Ws (64-6s, the other a 640-1) blasted with mild steel bead. Glass bead will look more like S&W 3rd Gen semi-autos. After a few years the 640-1 shows shiny “wear” around the muzzle and the front end of the muzzle. I dont care enough to touch it up
