    S&W M&P shield recoil spring

My daughter carries a S&W M&P shield 9mm. She feels it is too hard to chamber a round. What replacement recoil spring do you recommend for her?

The factory one is the only way to go. She may need to try a different technique or look at the Shield EZ.

I would recommend trying one of these.

I have an injured hand and racking slides has always been difficult. I really like these on my guns. They work much better than just sticking grip tape on the slide, and the springs just feel less "sprung." I don't have a Shield (because they always had difficult recoil springs, for me), but I put one of these on a Shield-plus owned by a relative, and it really made the recoil spring less difficult to contend with.

I have put them on my M&Ps and my Sig 365-380 and they all are much easier to run, for me.

YMMV but it's a pretty cheap test. Good luck,

I have a wife and daughter. It might be a technique issue, not just the recoil spring. Both of these links might help.

For me, it seems like the applied finish to a firearm can be slick, others less slick. When comparing the Glock gen 4 finish to the Glock gen 5, the gen 5, to me is slicker. From all accounts, the gen 5 finish is more durable and protective of the pistol. I like the gen 4 finish simply the finish is less slick. I feel like I can get a better grip on the gen 4 slide. Just my preference. I guess that is why I like parkerized finishes too.

Slide serrations can affect functionality too. I've come across some slide serrations that seem to have their edges smoothed to a degree. My preference is slide serrations that are left as cut with little to no smoothing of the edge.

I share these observations just to point out factors other than the recoil spring that affect function when racking the slide. My Glock 26 and S&W Shield 2.0 have a very brief slide travel so a stiffer recoil spring is needed to get that slide back in battery in a hurry.

One other observation, load the magazine down one round and see if that helps. As has been suggested a different firearm might be the answer.
