I much prefer this version over the Golden Earring version.

    Nobody's mentioned Nouvelle Vague yet.

Multiple albums covering college radio/Britpop hits of the 80's. In a jazzy/easy listening style.

    Sense of humor required.

I'll admit to liking the Dead Kennedy's original version better, but this is still a lot of fun.

I like that quite a bit. Her phrasing is really good. I’ve heard the DKs do this one live, too.

I haven't been through this thread in a while, so please excuse a re-post if this is one:

    Hm

The original is a classic, with guitar work by legend Michael Bloomfield, but there’s something about this more stripped down and rocking version Bill Kirchen recorded as a trio in the early 2000s.
The guitar work is primal, both very delicate and roaring in turns, a testament to the enduring design genius of the Fender Telecaster.
(For you guitards, it’s the same one he used to record “Hot Rod Lincoln” with Commander Cody in 1972.)

Was going to post this tonight. He’s got some good ideas, and he rather nailed Ray Manzarek’s approach.

In a sort of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.” ― C.S. Lewis, The Abolition of Man
