Leo Moracchioli has been building a solid portfolio of metal covers of hit songs. The first one I heard was his cover of Toto's "Africa". Who knew that pop songs and rap songs just needed Norwegian metal to be good?
Leo's cover of "Bring the Noise". Yes, it has a kazoo solo.
Leo's cover of "Now and Then" by The Beatles. I heard his version before I heard the Beatles's version and I liked his version more. The surviving Beatles had to use a few studio tricks and computer software to cobble their version together while Leo had more of a free hand.
Art vs. Science's cover of Metallica's "Enter Sandman". I can't say that it's better but it is a funky take.
Big Scary's version of Nirvana's "Come As You Are".
Plasticines cover of "You're No Good".
"Killing In The Name" Not really covered by the North Korean military but it is an entertaining edit.

Great thread! I wouldn't say this is better, but I think it's close and different enough to make it on here. Of course you guys have already listed some the the best ones. I'll also add the group Pomplamoose. They do mostly covers and mashups.
Not better, but kinda catchy. There's full length version on her YT channel, but the live short is pretty good:

Ghost has come up a couple of times in this thread. In the line of "just as good, but in a quite different way" -
Johnny Cash's version of this one is creepy as hell:
This thread needs more Zevon covers:
And now for something completely different (it starts paying off about a minute in, but that first minute is the setup for the joke):
