Sticky traps have worked in my experience, with a dab of peanut butter in the center

We live way out in the country so it is a never ending problem, this has worked well for years

A guy I used to shoot with told me he once had a greyhound that was the most efficient killer of mice he'd ever seen.

One workaround for mice licking the bait off the trap without triggering it is to use a bread tie and tie one or two Honey Nut Cheerios to the set. It works much better in my experience.

When my daughter was three she came and got me because a mouse was "talking to her."
She could hear its screams of agony as it was dying in a glue trap. She was transported in flights of ecstasy at having found a new friend.
I was torn between "awww" at her reaction and feeling sick at her misinterpretation.
I told her I would take him to his mommy, took him outside and ended it, apologizing to its mouse spirit.
    No more glue traps.

I previously used a predecessor of this trap with success. No noise, no danger to pets or small children.

I use this but the mice catch on to them so I take away for a bit and reintroduce them.

But it smells good and that’s a bonus.
We had mice problems at my parents. A friend recommended cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil. He stores his boat and a car for the winter using this method and says he hasn't had a problem. Of course it doesn't kill the mice, just keeps them away. You don't want them to move from the shed into the house.

I've had reasonable success with these in an indoor situation, but I have them in the basement where the dog doesn't have access.

We had a hangar in Utah, that had bad mice problems. Really hard to seal a hangar. The airport brought feral cats in, and ever since, I haven't seen sign of a single mouse. Guy across the way did have a cat decide to take up residence in the rear baggage of his plane, which was a different sort of problem.
