Those 5" M29 Classic revolvers are quite possibly the most accurate centerfire wheelguns I have ever had the pleasure of using.
Mine now wears a red dot, but even with irons it turned in some amazing groups. Whenever I need to do load development, that is the gun I use as a baseline.
4" 29-2 with some Russian wadcutters and Milt Sparks leather.
And a 5"29-2
with 300 grain .44 Mags. 240 grain .44 Specials and 185 grain Russians.
Yes Sir! I thought ours looked related!
I need to run some of the .44 Russians through mine and through the new 1854 Smith lever I got. It was engineered to run flawlessly with Specials, so I’m wondering if I can fool it with even shorter cases!

Hard to beat a 29-5 Classic DX. Probably the pinnacle of S&W N-frame 44's: endurance package engineering changes, machined and case-hardened internals, optics mounting, interchangeable front sights--everything you need and nothing you don't. Here's mine with some micarta grips from John Culina:
My 5” 629 Classic I bought in the early nineties. I later had it Magna-ported. I also whittled the Hogue grips a bit to suit me.
