I’ve had send factory triggers work fine for SA use, but DA can require a little fitting of the hammer’s DA sear.

Yeah, not gonna lie, I'm a little intimidated by the prospect of taking a tool to fit a trigger for an old S&W. I have no experience with hand fitting parts. I'm going to have to see how I do with it on Saturday.

I would just say dont overthink it. "hand fitting" is mostly not required, and messing with the DA sear isnt something thats normally needed. I dont touch them. Fitting barrels seems relatively simple to me, but I dont mess with DA sears, the only one I messed with, one that worked perfectly, but thought Id slick up a little, it then had a hitch in its get-a-long and I paid someone more experienced to put a new one in and fit it correctly. Most of the hammers and triggers Ive swapped that were already fitted to some gun, any gun, dropped into others with little or no issue. Some may be a little better feeling in DA mode, but they generally work as is if they havent been messed with by someone trying to "improve" them.

Ive only had one hammer that didnt like its new home, so I swapped it back to a gun i was selling. I REALLY wanted that hammer with super nice color case hardening, but it was not meant to be apparently. The main lesson on swapping parts is, if it doesnt work or feel right, and you dont right off understand why, dont use that part. Theres plenty of parts that will work without heartburn and not require work or fitting. One gun I had was gutted inside when I got it, I put odds and ends of spare used parts I had, the first hammer and within I think 2 triggers I tried in it worked well and had a nice DA trigger pull. Ebay parts piles.

Youtube has many decent videos of basic Smith disassembly and reassembly. Thats about all you need to take them apart, clean them well, and replace basic parts. Youve probably done much more complicated things and thought nothing of it, they were just more familiar to you.

Since this thread has gotten way off topic, I figured to get it back on line I’d post a quick iPhone shot of a 629-3 I recently acquired. It originally was wearing Hogue rubbers and a god-awful B-Square rail mount for an optic, sans the rear sight. Someone on the Blue Forum hooked me up with a replacement sight and I had the Target grips laying around…

Probably the nicest Highway Patrolman I’ve personally see is this 28-2 that according to the seller was acquired by her father who in turn acquired it from a long time S&W employee who had it factory finished in Bright Blue. For $900 even I had to snatch this one up. I had the grips already and they are perfect for this gun.

I could not agree with you more. My favorite method of fitting gun parts is to accumulate multiples of the same part. Try dropping in several different examples of the same part to see which fits best. File or stone on the cheapest part first

Shot my Model 25-2 (.45 ACP) today. This was the first time I've shot it since I put the Pachmayr grips on it. What a difference it made! Even with the wide target trigger that is not ideal for double action shooting, I was able to shoot extremely well with the gun out to 25 feet without making the front sight move and thus throwing the shot, even at a brisk shooting pace. Recoil is extremely mild and it has very little muzzle flip/rise. All rounds fired were Speer Lawman 230gr TMJ, and the gun shot to the sights perfectly. I'm really, really enjoying this revolver!

There were 2 or maybe 3 instances where it felt a little difficult to get the trigger going into the pull, but I think it had to do with my finger placement due to the wide target trigger. Dry firing at the range after I finished shooting didn't show any binding or difficulty pulling the trigger. I only shot a total of 72 rounds.
