Thread: Rock floor in shower is deteriorating

Rock floor in shower is deteriorating

12x12 tiles with a rock pattern were used in the shower floor, approx 5 years old. Some of individual rocks are starting to deteriorate.
Any ideas on what is causing this and how to stop it.

We are on city water and have softener and filter.

Oh, shit. Is this the type that looks like river rocks that have been cut into slices?

I can’t imagine what would cause that - my guess is there was a preexisting inclusion. How widespread is it?

My dad has been a tile contractor for about 45 years and is regarded as the best in this region. I showed him your picture and he said he has never seen that happen before. He also said that your water should have nothing to do with it.

    Sorry that’s not very helpful.

Was something maybe dropped on it? Scale? Cleaning bottle of some type? Perfume/cologne bottle?
