The FN49 in 30-06 had long been a “buy it on sight” rifle for me.

    I have never seen one.

    I’m very jelly.

I remember when versions in 7mm were selling for $79 by mail order.
Never had the $79 at the right moment.

    Nice looking rifle.

    A Postban Compliance Duo

I feel reasonably well defensively covered in post-ban Washington with this duo, the .30-06 FN 49 and my FN Mk III .40 High Power...

Very interesting looking rifle! Never seen or heard of them before today.

I take it the 7 mm versions are 7x57?

Correct. They're reportedly quite gentle to shoot as well.

I'd be down for a 7mm version myself.

Same. Would love to get myself a 7mm FN49.

A good friend has one of the South American contract rifles in .30-06 (Venezuela?) and while it is a good shooter it looks pretty rough compared to yours. Congrats on that find. Daddy of the FAL.

And to think that when I woke up this morning, I didn't even know I needed another rifle...
