I repaired the follow on unit, the RT1523C/D as well as the fill devices. Damn, I’m almost as old.🤣

PVS-4 with a special mount for the feed tray cover on an M249 SAW.

Head mount for PVS-7's because the plastic rhino mounts kept breaking we only had enough for squad leader and above. Talk about a headache wearing a headmount under a kevlar.

    FLAK jacket.

    Alice LBE.

    Green pickle suit rain gear.

The IZ deck of most-wanted cards with Sadaam as the Ace of Spades.

We used those at basic, but never saw them again after.

We had the Motorola Convertacom portable/base radio's with the tone pack that broadcast the radio identifier tones each time you keyed them. Before that were some tan RCA radios that were about 18' long. As they wore out and were used & abused you had to make sure the twist on battery's made it out of the car with you.

I am not having much success imagining a smoothbore, muzzle-loading, black powder M16
If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.

After the M4 became more common, the A2s started getting called muskets as an informal nickname. Just because they're longer and seen as "old" by dudes like me who went in during the late aughts.

I had an older M4 in basic. M16A2 at my NG unit before deployment. M4 with RIS downrange.

Every Army uniform I've worn is phased out, a d it kind if saddens me.
Missed out on marshmellows. Jan 09 I think I started basic and had the gray PTs my whole time. They're phased out.
    ACUs in OCP. Phased out.
Graduated basic in Class A greens. Phased out.
Honor Guard I upgraded to Dress Blues. Phased out.

I wish the current WWII era dress uniform had been the uniform of my day. My grandfather wore it, and the boys today wear it. I some how feel jipped on the heritage of that.

    As far as actual equipment...
    M9s. Phased (ing?) out.
    Alice LBE. Phased out.
Manpack radio. Newer vets didnt know what I meant when I mentioned a SINGARs in a frameless ruck.
M2s that require headspace and timing.
M249s. Don't they have IARs or something now?
M203. Newer vets I know never saw it. Only M320s.
    IBAs. IOTVs. Kevlars.
The glory that was the Black fleece.
    Brown BCGs.
    240Bs instead of Gs.
    Canteen cups.
    PAQ4C IR laser.
    PVS 7B.
    PVS 14s.

I've only been out since 14, and damn near everything has changed.

CMMG made one, years ago. A legit single-shot, long-barreled blackpowder upper.

Imagine the disappointment of some game warden getting all excited about busting a hunter for using an AR15 during muzzleloader season, then finding out the AR is actually a muzzleloader.
