I switch to a shoulder rig when I'm in my house. It also allows me to wear sports pants under my bath robe and no belt at all.

    Are you a MD?
NOT the YouTuber by the same name.

Thanks to the docs for chiming in.

Is staying fit and maintaining a solid core conducive to avoiding this type of injury?

My typical core/ab workout is 100-130 of each of the following: situp w/ 10lb. weight, Russian Twist w/ 15lb. kettlebell, side dip w/ 33lb. dumbells.

Work out 5-6 days a week, this is happening once or twice a week.

Haven't had a chance to chime in again, but for the record, little over 3yrs ago, I developed not just a sore hotspot, but also a sore and swollen lump that I self diagnosed as a possible hernia. A specialist who could not find any issues, even said the lymph nodes under the swelling were actually slightly smaller than their twins on my left side. I definitely didn't tell any medical professional that I believed the underlying issue was my all day, every single day, carry of a G19 in a kydex rig.

And fwiw I think Gonzales said such issues, "could lead to a hernia-like injury possibly resulting in surgery." @SouthNarc knows him, maybe he can get him to chime in.

For me, AIWB while seated, even with my lightweight .22 LCR, becomes nearly unbearable rather rapidly and can persist for days. I've got an IWB holster for my LCR en route, if it's comfy, I'll swap the kydex clip for a DCC Monoblock and lay off my AIWB for anything other than deep ccw duties.

I have been going though a very similar situation. As you know we started carrying AIWB around the same time. I made it fine for what about ten years or so and then started getting pain. Quit for a while, it got better, went back to it for pain to be sometimes there now. This is not to be confused with my recent hernia mesh tear from a 2016 repair as I carry on the other side as a lefty.
