    David Bowie...again.

A local radio show just mentioned this, and I was....lost in thought.

40 years ago today David Bowie released...

"Lets Dance", one of my first memories of him, with that MTV video and all.

Gave Bowie a #1 hit in the US, and it was nominated for a Grammy for best album of the year, losing out to....Thriller, which I have to admit was really, really good.

Been a Bowie fan since then...

    RIP.

    Brings back some memories.

Back in MTV's heyday. When they actually played music videos.

Saw him in the Tacoma Dome supporting that album

My brother was the bigger fan, but he was quite a performer

Personally, I liked his older stuff better

Not very bright but does lack ambition
I mentioned this to my wife sitting next to me, and she reminded me she was five when it was released.

Ziggy Stardust was one of my first albums. Let's dance was a little too pop for me.

I heard Heroes the other day. I googled it and was surprised that most of the lyrics for the album were written on the spot.

I also enjoy hearing his duet with Bing Crosby around the holidays.

Never saw him in concert, wish I had.

Don't get me wrong. Let's Dance was the gateway drug....

Depending on the day of the week I can't decide if I like his "The Man Who Sold The World" better. or Nirvana's acoustic cover. The Mrs and I just listened to Space Oddity, and didn't miss a lyric. And Bowie's Space Oddity made it possible for Peter Schilling's Major Tom and The Noah Plan, both awesome tunes in their own right. And my Mrs parents didn't even know each other when Space Oddity was released.

Heroes, China Girl. Modern Love (catchy, but still a little pop-y). Liked the Ziggy Stardust album quite a bit.

Not the Duke I grew up with, but The Duke in his arena nonetheless.

Okay I have to admit if it hadn't been for SRV playing on it I wouldn't have cared about "Let's Dance".

Bowie was the first one to figure out how to be a rock star without losing the touch, The answer was to change styles every couple of years, listen to new music, use it, and keep hiring and firing different session players, although some of his guitarists, such as Carlos Alomar and Reeves Gabrels, stayed on with him for years. "Let's Dance" was one of the many great stops along the way. I am happy to hear it brings back good memories for you.

Every time that song comes on the radio it takes me back and makes me smile. Whether or not you cared for his music, you have to recognize he was a genius.

My wife likes Bowie and ZD is one of her favorites. Mine is Heroes, and I agree about the poppy sound of Let's Dance.
