Think I may end up with one of the d2 daggers as well in the future but waiting for a shivworks barracuda to arrive.

Will try to get you some in the next few days. Life has been particularly busy lately.

I more than understand that, just at your leisure. More curiosity on my part now, so anything is appreciated.

Sorry it took me forever. I'll note a few things, in the idea that something is better than nothing.

When I purchased the MDV, it came with the pictures sheath with a fin. They have another optional sheath for it that was sold out when I bought the blade.

The knife with pictures sheath is a fairly light and slim package. It lays quite flat. The sheath as pictured is fairly loose. It seats and unseats with a small pop, but easily, and there's quite a bit of wiggle room (it will rattle a touch if you shake it). This combo makes for a very concealable package in certain ways. I found that it conceals well in the pocket of chinos or slacks the way even most folders wouldn't (I wear fitted clothes, with an athletic build. A lot of times guys talk about pocket carrying guns and I just laugh, knowing that I just cannot in my life, at least not in office clothes.) The package also works well tucked into a long, sturdy sock under lighter fabric pants. The loose fit in the sheath is a boon, here. It draws easily without the sheath moving too much. The thin and flat handle makes it easy to conceal.

Those same factors weigh against it as a waistband/belt knife, IMO. I want a more solid retention on the sheath with something more likely to be bumped or rotated in daily wear or in a tussle. The thin handle means it can twist some in your hand. I like the sizeable hook/bird's beak pommel, although I can imagine it not helping concealment in certain situations. I found the grip section for the hand a decent size, although I wear a size L/XL glove, and can just palm a basketball, so it might be too much room for a smaller person.

Some of the work shown with grip versatility in Skallwag's videos I don't necessarily buy (using it like a push dagger, or with index fingers pointing along the blade axis). It's not that I think it can't be made to work by some folks: I just think that it's less robust for everyone, and especially non-experts.

TLDR: it's fun. As a knife guy, I like it. In a very specific niche, it could have a role. It's less versatile, for me, than many knives with a 3D handle and decent kydex. If I was going to be relying on it, I would absolutely want a dedicated IWB sheath with more positive retention. If you wanted to buy just one, for carrying and using, defense or otherwise, I think a Shivworks Barracuda is a better solution. Then again, I have a $30 Mora Eldris with a $20 aftermarket sheath that realistically works just fine, too. I could probably be let loose in the average discount store and figure out close to the same with a $9 paring knife.

If you have any questions, just say so.

Thanks for doing this. Looks like a cool little knife. Only question on the sheath it came with, can you loop the ranger band around again to tighten it up a tad more? I ended up with the barracuda, when it was colder I could carry it like how a clinch pick is carried. Warmer weather it’s not working as well. I need to get a small dcc clip like the amtac tyrant sheath (again looks like a cool little knife, but the cost causes me pause) to try. Hoping to eventually see things that work a little better (tenicor hopefully).

We have not, but you just cost me my fun money for the quarter. Dangit.
