    LE = Law Enforcement. Federal doesn't sell their LE lines direct. PD = Personal Defense - which they do sell direct. Same stuff, different boxes, higher prices (just like HST) - which I find annoying as hell, but it is what it is.
    I've direct ordered LE13200 here: https://www.recoilgunworks.com/feder...ck-low-recoil/

    And here: https://www.streichers.com/federal-1...tical-buckshot

    Wasn't required to provide LE credentials.

    According to a couple forum member, Hornady Critical Defense and Hornady Black are the same:

    @43Under can you comment?

    I picked up 100 rounds of Black recently from SGAmmo. I probably paid too much, but I could get it. Since I have a Streichers in my town, I might try to get some LE13200 next (thanks, @RevolverRob).

    Unfortunately, I live in Kalifornia so no mail order ammo. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for LE132, but does anyone have any experience with the FC154???

    FWIW: You don't need credentials to buy Federal Law Enforcement ammo, just Hornady LE ammo.

    Just that you can't order the Federal LE ammo from Federal's Website. But you can order the Personal Defense line: https://www.federalpremium.com/shots...-PD132+00.html

    If I were in Cal - I'd check my local LE supply house. I'm now in NY and at least, for now, ammo can be shipped to an FFL and picked up here by me. Or do what I did which was buy a bunch before I left WA and move it with me here.

    Arizona and Oregon are far, but might be worth it if you have the option.

    Critical Defense and Hornady Black are essentially the same. The difference is Critical Defense uses a flash suppressed powder and Black doesn’t.

    I always prefer the Federal FC loads over the Hornady loads. That product # should be PFC154, and is functionally equivalent to LE12700. I wouldn’t shy away from it if it was what I could get.

    While the Hornady loads are 8 pellet, they are not plated or buffered. I get better performance from the 9 pellet FC loads than I do the Hornady loads in the handful of shotguns I have tried them in. Each shotgun is special though, so be sure to confirm performance of any load.

    I can just about match FC performance with some standard 00 loads and the right choke tube. Just gotta be willing to put the work in and experiment around.

    Yup. This.

    My preference for the Hornady loadings as opposed to the FFC is due entirely to the fixed modified choke on my 870P SBS. The choke doesn’t play well with FliteControl. As to whether I purchase Hornady BLACK or Critical Defense, for my purposes, whichever I can find.

    I was at my local shop today looking for FFC, but no luck. They did have 4 boxes of Hornady Black on the shelf so I bought all 4 based on posts here! When I got home, I looked at the boxes and discovered some interesting facts…. They are 8 pellets and 1600 fps!

    They do thump pretty hard out of a pump gun. Actual velocity out of a 18"-ish gun is closer to 1400fps. Hornady uses a 30" test barrel for their shotgun velocities.
