Thread: Federal Flight Control alternatives?

    Federal Flight Control alternatives?

I can’t find the popular FFC (LE132 00) anywhere in my area. I did find a source that had a few boxes of Federal VitalShok (FC154 00) that has the flight control wad. The only difference I could find was the muzzle velocity, 1145 vs 1325. Is the VitalShok worth dropping money on?

Check out the Hornady Black stuff if it’s still around.

For lower recoil stuff there is also the American gunner blue shells from Hornady that have their version of the flight control style wad. What I run in my Tac14.

You are absolutely going to have to order FFC.

I'd put a notification on Ammo Seek for LE132-00 and LE133-00.

You can also set up notifications in Federal's direct store for FE132-00 and FE133-00 they are the same rounds. But be prepared to pay about 3 bucks a round that way.

I suspect this load is the same as Hornady's Critical Defense 8 Pellet 00 Buck with the Versatite Wad. That's what I am able to find locally that's comparable to Flite Control.

Does the above offend? If you have paid to be here, you can click here to put it in context.

Isn't that 9 pellet stuff known to have flyers in pretty much every barrel?

Also, why not LE1321B? Or is that just total unobatinum at this point?

    #1 Buck is discontinued.

The Hornady Black and Critical Defense are the same round, different hull color. In my experience it patterns acceptable but not as good as FFC. Mainly because it's 1600fps vs. 1175. The 1600 tends to produce smashed pellets and opens up the pattern.

1325 is a fair compromise and the Hornady American Gunner is 1325fps, 8-pellet. Which I would prefer to LE127 which is a 9-pellet load.

LE132-00, LE133-00, Hornady TAP Reduced Recoil are all 1175fps they all pattern better than the faster stuff due to less pellet deformation.

The higher velocity stuff is needed to cycle some guns that are in service out there (Benellis for instance). If you're running a manually operated gun or a 1301 - there isn't much reason to run the heavier stuff unless it's the only thing you can find. If so, I'd opt for the Hornady American Gunner at 1325 first over all others.

I find the Crit Defense and Black stuff too stiff to shoot a lot of.

Oh I came here to note this. I got it wrong you want

    PD133-00 or PD132-00

LE = Law Enforcement. Federal doesn't sell their LE lines direct. PD = Personal Defense - which they do sell direct. Same stuff, different boxes, higher prices (just like HST) - which I find annoying as hell, but it is what it is.
