I like knives that are affordable but are well built.

Back when I needed a more substantial blade, the RAT 1 met my needs pretty well. The last few years I've been happy with a basic Delica however the prices keep going up and for a VG10 blade and FRN handles I wouldn't spend what they're asking now.

Recently picked a CJRB Pyrite as my intro to button locks and it's very well put together and easy opening for those who "fidget" with their knives. Steel is AR-RPM (supposedly proprietary) and price on Amazon was $50. Haven't yet decided what I think about the button lock though.

The last one I snagged is the SOG Terminus XR in S35VN, sliding bar lock, carbon fiber /G10 handles. It has both a flipper and thumb studs and for $75, I think it was a good buy. It does have soe design issues I don't like: flipper is needlessly sharp and the deep carry clip lets my jean pocket slip up and over the rear of the handle which makes it near impossible to pull it out of my pocket using my usual pinch grip. I was able to address both issues with some slight modification.

I was looking at the Pyrite, too! I bought the Sitivien for the lock because I was more familiar and liked that lock. I may still buy a Pyrite. I still like the Manix 2 but the prices have gone up quite a bit since I last bought one.

I like the Manix 2 Lightweight but it takes up a bit too much space in my pocket. Spyderco seems to be increasing prices across the board so I'm looking elsewhere for the time being.

On the Pyrite, it almost comes out too fast for my taste. I don't need the blade bouncing back if the button lock fails to engage...or maybe as an older guy, I might just be too skeptical of new fangled designs.

    I'm currently using these two:

The smaller one goes AIWB at the lake or the beach. Rinse with water and a drop or two of oil when I get home.

I had a basic CRKT Voxnaes Pilar earlier this year and really liked it, though it seemed it was a bit heavy for size. I lost it one day in August and am debating replacing it with the larger Pilar with black or green G-10 as linked, or just going for the original small size.
I have a Pilar III with D2 steel blade obtained in a raffle here on P-F, and it has become my EDC. These are pretty nice knives. How do you like the edge keeping on the green D2 large Pilar?

I found the stainless small Pilar to be just a little too small and a little too slick for EDC, but is great at the beach. The large with the G10 panel fixes both those issues, and I like the sheepsfoot blade for general use. It seems that the edge retention on the D2 is better than on my WalMart special early Spyderco Natives, but I'm a Luddite when it comes to all the different blade steels and how they stack up....I just recalled that D2 was discussed favorably around here, so I went and ordered this one.

Still about $20. Not quick to unfold but rugged and can be improvised into a fixed blade unit.

Ive been liking the plastic handled Buck 112 variants also. The thin current issue one with tan handle is nice once the clip was removed. I came into an older red handled one in a pawn shop that has mostly replaced the brass and rosewood handled one I normally carry on my belt in a 1911 mag carrier.

I used a Gerber Pixie some when younger as a field knife for small game. I recently came into some Gerber Miming steak knives, which are mostly a Pixie with longer handle. Only downside is the smooth aluminum handle. Anyone know what I could coat or treat the handle with to get traction but not get gross from food or critter blood? The Pixie had a dark non-slip coating which worked pretty well.

I don't know if this will work, but maybe try truck bed liner spray or undercoat spray for your knife handles.
