    @JCN, or anyone who cares to comment.
    My range used to host USPSA and I had access to swingers. In an attempt to create a more irregular movement pattern I would attach a short rope with a dumbbell weight to the bottom of the pendulum.
    This worked okay...but still resulted in a very narrow window of movement.
    Today I watched a video on scientific efforts at describing and controlling Chaos. And I saw something that looked promising.
    A Double Pendulum.
    If someone with too much time on their hands and access to a well equipped private range(hint) were to make a steel target as the second pendulum...

    Where the colored circles would be a steel target of TBD size.

    Versus this.

    I think that the DP(no porn intended) would allow practice on an erratically moving target that provided immediate feedback on visual tracking control, trigger control and shooting at assessment speed.
    Thoughts?

    @feudist thanks for tagging me!

    There is this:

    But ultimately it would have to be something self powered (like the range robot activators) so that it’s really unpredictable like something self powered like a human.

    It’s like the simplification of sporting clays versus a bird that could change direction and accelerate rather than just lose power.

    My range has something like that "holy monkey".

    I think at some point, like a level II or III match, props like that start running into competitive equity issues where one guy gets a good swing and the next guy gets a bad one. Range lawyering and stage tossing follow...

    Yeah, looks like a great idea for practice. Matches not so much.

    Yes. This. Area1 last year had a double Mike Monkey stage that was competitively fucked up. After the first presentation, targets appeared chaotically making it very different for each shooter. So, if you were trying for a podium spot you had to swing for the bleachers and try to get them both on the first presentation. Hero or zero. Screw that. Terrible stage prop.
