We have the same magazine restrictions as you do except we can still run our older >10 rd mags if we had them before July 1. That doesn't change things for me because I'm not going to play that game. I'll just roll with 10 and be happy. I'm mostly a pistol/revolver/bolt rifle shooter anyway. I have a Mini-14 but I don't feel a need to run 20 rd mags in that. It's just a range toy.
I traveled all over the western states in an RV for 4 years with an HK45 or a 1911. Camped and hiked with them and never felt I needed a carbine or a shotgun. Nice things about those is you can OC or CC where legal and take it with you when you leave your vehicle.
But to answer your question I'd go with a pump shotgun over a pistol using a rifle cartridge. I don't see any advantage there with 10 rds. Should be capable of mounting a light.

In the P-F basket of deplorables.

My local PD posted on Facebook they confiscated a “sawed off shotgun” from some dirtbags lurking around a house. They had a picture of a Shockwave/Tac-14.
It’s tricky ground defending your family in this crazy climate.
Good Lord.... Locally, a guy recently smoke-checked a local thug who was burglarizing unoccupied dwelling. The homeowner will likely be given a Good Citizen medal and cash award...
All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
No one is coming. It is up to us.
Except the 1907 breaks down easily into two pieces.
I have seriously considered:
1907 Winchester
Model 8/81 Remington
Take-Down Savage 99
Model 12
Take-Down 94 Winchester and variants
Tac-14/Shockwave
RDS Pistol
All of them as travel guns in lieu of my old one (my now departed Rattler). And I've come to the conclusion that the best travel gun is a AR/Sig pistol with a folding brace. But of course, that is soon to be defunct.
If you want a travel shotgun, check out the Mossberg flex stuff, not so you can swap out with a pistol grip, but so you can snap a youth length stock on and off, along with an 18.5” bbl.
Of course it has to be lego-ed together before you shoot it.
I was into 10mm Auto before it sold out and went mainstream, but these days I'm here for the revolver and epidemiology information.
