    Shockwave w/Red Dot

Inspired by Rhett @RustyCrusty, I bought a Shockwave S at the 11th hour before Oregon’s horrific gun and mag ban was to go into effect. I wanted a compact truck and camp gun to replace my AR pistol. (What do we think about AR w/10 rd mags vs a shotgun?)

While the cheekweld grip works well for me with an AR, I didn't like it with the Shockwave. There's no doubt this can work really well--just look at Rhett's videos. But I found the hand position really awkward. Instead, I discovered it shoots ‘shockingly’ well with the grip at midline on my chest. This required a tall 1.93" optic mount. (Note the wrap with a bit of foam under it to soften the blow.) Parts list to follow.

Can you explain the middle of the chest technique a little more? I'm not sure I follow at all.

Sure. Place butt of grip on chest, high enough so I can aim through the optic, just under my collar bone. If I don't wrap my thumb, that keeps my wrist in a decently ergonomic position. Using a push-pull, like Rhett does makes the recoil very manageable. But even without that, it's fine. No bruises.

I'm very interested to see you develop this further!

As to the sorted-out-Shockwave vs 10rnd AR for a defensive gun, I'd say that depends on what the AR's chambered in.
At house/campsite distances I don't think a mag-limited 5.56's low recoil or range would be enough of an advantage over a sorted 12ga. A sorted out AR paired with good projectile selection in .300BO, .350 Legend, .450 Bushmaster, or .458 SOCOM - that might be different depending on the exact situation and use case.

Im somewheres between the cheekweld and chest. Inside 50yards I'll take the shockwave over anything if I need to fight. Depending on the animal I'll grab it first too.

I can’t imagine a less suitable HD platform. I’m guessing that residential frame construction wouldn’t even slow it down. I’d be happy to be proven wrong though. The feral humans in this area are always doped to the gills, which I understand was part of the use case that drove its original development.

With large animals, there are often entanglements that favor being able to shoot with just one hand. Have you tried any drills shooting with only one hand available?
