Well after a couple of years of waffling... it looks like I'm getting back in the 1911 game after a hiatus of a few years. I've got a Dan Wesson Valor in Duty Coat on the way. Once I'm confident that the gun runs reliably, I'd like to start carrying it. I've got a handful of random questions, and I figured it would be best not to clutter the "art & science" thread.
- I've carried a Glock 19 AIWB for a number of years, but admittedly have no experience with that carry position and the 1911. JMCK seems like the obvious answer to try it out. Does anyone know if their quick ship holsters are molded to keep the thumb safety engaged? Or will that have to be a custom order?
- I've not carried a spare mag for a number of years, but the reduced capacity of the 1911 leaves me at least wanting the option. When I did carry a spare, it was behind the hip, and concealment sucked. I'm open to trying AIWB mag carriage, but there don't seem to be a ton of options. I'm leaning towards the JMCK high ride pouch, unless there's a better option I'm overlooking.
- Part of the justification for this purchase is to have a cool host for a Silencerco Octane 45 that is currently in NFA jail. I'm comfortable fitting some small parts, but lack the tools and experience to fit a barrel. I'm a bit underwhelmed by the local gunsmithing options, and it seems Dan Wesson's Custom Shop is currently closed. I understand that most of the big name 'smiths have either a significant backlog, or won't take piece work, preferring to to do full builds. Any recommendations for a gunsmith for that?
