The slide shift is the recoil spring moving the slide after striker tension is gone.

The striker spring holds the slide out of battery a little if you do not use some force to return the slide.

Most striker fired pistols do this no? P320 lifts uo. Glocks move too

Fair enough! I do notice it far more with the M&P and it's decidedly horizontal.

Must be another reason hammer guns are better

The SD9 and SD40 do this very noticeably.

I posted earlier about my Competitor experience....bad. Since I bought a Rival Steel. Great gun so far. I generally shoot a couple hundred rounds per week. The rival has made me set aside my Smiths for the time being. No problems, really like it.

The 320 "dot drop" in dryfire goes away with a magazine in place.

Came here to ask the same question.

    Didn't see an answer.

is the factory magwell a factory part or is it an adopted / rebranded aftermarket item ?

It is the striker spring holding the slide slightly out of battery when the slide is closed softly , when the striker drops the recoil spring moves the slide. When dry firing drop the slide harder or give a push on the back of the slide with your thumb and most if not all of the movement will be gone.
