My son and I went camping last night and I forgot utensils. I figured it was a good chance to reiterate how to adapt and overcome so I whipped out my hawk and made these in a couple minutes.

    We survived the ordeal.

I once reused a gas station coffee cup/lid for several days on a hunting trip, having forgotten my nice insulated mug. That sorta sucked.

Also have cooked and consumed a large steak over an open fire with only my pocket knife and a couple pieces of rebar ... no plate, no paper towel, no bowl, no problem.

Nice, I’ve made similar food scoopers myself.

    Speaking of hand made utensils.

I have a theory that chopsticks were not just super easy to source in nature if you had bamboo/cane, trees or shrubs around, but that they were an elegant solution to make eating a small portion of food take longer so you feel like you’re eating more.

If you watch Samoans use chopsticks it may affect your theory

    I can pee outside.
Whittled this in the summer whilst porch sittin' one evening.

Piece of cut and split moose maple.

Made it too thin in the neck.

It now rides in my HPG kit bag.

I went through all the websites and catalogs (online or paper) I could find when I first got into wood turning. I never realized how popular spoon carving was until I saw all the different tools and tool sets specifically for spoon carving.

I was just messing around with the idea when I did this.
Used a Victorianox Swiss Army knife.

Best one we ever had was a carved wooden spoon we picked up at a Civil War camp reinactment. Had such a great feel, but somehow it was lost in our move to NH.
