Gotta admit, while I'm looking at a Daniel Defense right now, I really do like the M4A1 SOCOM Colt is putting out. I guess the only thing is, people say, including some on the P&S Modcasts on AR15s a few years ago, that the Colts of this era are not as good as the ones from the late 00's/early 10's. I do like that mine has all the same inspection markings as the US GOVT M4s, as back then they were at least using many parts from the same production line as their US mil M4s. Since they lost the sole source contract for the US gov't, it's my understanding that this has changed, most parts are not made in house anymore, and it does not have all the proper markings that would be required on a TDP rifle (F marked FSB, white paint inspection dot on bolt head, C marked carrier, and cage code/"C" on upper). From the Colts I've seen lately, some have some of these, but not all, and some have none.
That said, other than the trigger hammer recall from a year or so ago, I haven't heard of any functional issues with current production Colts. It's just when some people who's experience I respect say Colt isn't what it used to be, it makes me wonder.
