She's dead, Jim! I need a new chronograph

As much as I would love to go out and drop the coin on a Labradar, I cannot justify that expense. The biggest use I have is to check velocities against book data for reloading and that's not that often. So I have narrowed down to 3.

This one has replaceable sensors and the brain is not part of what you shoot through. Costs the most, 3.5 star reviews. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/101506602?pid=773378

These next 2 house everything together, costs are equal, both have 4.5 stars.

Any thoughts or comments on any of these?

    Thanks, CD

I have the most basic model from Competition Electronics, which pretty much just shows you the velocity for each shot and doesn't do much else. It's been very easy to use and reliable, nice big area to shoot through. Not fiddly at all, I've never had any trouble getting shots to register because the angle wasn't just right or the lighting was weird, it just works.

    There are cheaper targets…

I like my $100 CED Prochrono. Magnetospeed is probably a better choice for rifles, but you can’t fit the bayonet on every gun.

I'm a big Competition Electronics fan.

Back about 1998 I bought a Competitions Electronics chronograph. A couple of years ago it started giving erratic results. I contacted them about repairing it but they didn't service that old model. However they gave me a smoking deal if I would trade in the 30 year old broken one.

My new one has Bluetooth and the results are saved on my I-phone. I'm happy.

I have mine mounted on a cheap tripod. It's not too hard to get it placed where it needs to be to record the shots.

Which model do you have? I am really in need of a chrono!

Mine is a little older model of the ProChrono DLX. I love the Bluetooth that sends the results to my phone in real time. I guess I got this in 2016. I have the results of all my chrono sessions since then readily available on my phone.

Looks like there are a few available at various online places.

You need to post this in the What did you shoot today? thread. ;-)

I bought a Competition Electronics ProChrono DLX Bluetooth about 5 months ago and I've been very pleased with it. Having the information sent immediately to the app on my smartphone is great and the app stores the info and calculates average speed, ES, and SD for you. It's great to be able to go into the app and look up that info later on.
