With recoil springs out. Hopefully this is easier to see.

I have a few BUL mags. But if the Dura Mags work and end up being $35 it makes some sense to have a 'smith cut the BUL frame for Staccato mags. Down side is a reduction in capacity by one round.

Interesting. I think that part of why my 9mm 5” gun had feeding issues was the recoil spring not having enough force, which I think when it hit the disconnector at partial compression slowed it down enough that it then lurched forward while feeding a round. Again, seems to be fixed with a heavier spring. However, not a gunsmith or 1911 expert, but I wonder if part of the lack of issues reported so far on the 4.25” has anything to do with there being more spring compression at the time the commander slide encounters the disconnector.

Someone that’s not making up theories should hopefully be along to tell me I’m wrong. Just an idea though.

In theory and in practice (at least in 45 ACP) the extra slide travel equates to better reliability. The case has a bit more time to get ejected, the magazine spring has a bit more time to get the next cartridge up and ready and the slide should have a bit more forward momentum as it starts the feed cycle.

With all that said, it would also seem possible that the extra travel and momentum also may translate into more time for the feeding cartridge to nosedive in the mag and stall out on the feed ramp.

If that's what's going on it may very well be that a stronger recoil spring will give the slide more forward speed to compensate and/or "mash" the round from a nose down orientation up into the chamber. And a stronger mag spring may help here too.

Before you start messing with springs have you checked extractor tension? That can often be a source of feed issues with 1911 format.

Oops. I forgot to mention that the SA is machined for a bushing. So is the BUL.

    Those look really nice

Will the SA(or 2011s in general) fit some 1911 parts like a recoil spring guide? Wilson has a full length guide rode that takes down with no tools. In fact its like a gi plug in essence.

That's this one? It would require a new barrel with a bushing.

These may work while retaining the factory barrel.

These would probably work as well.

Staccato uses the Dawson Precision tool-less guide rod. Not sure which one would be compatible with the Prodigy but they make a few different models, including the one linked for the Springfield TRP with Bull Barrel. Not cheap though.

I'm sorry, I should have added a link. There's quite a few different ones.

I use the one for 45s. This one has a 15lb spring so still might be to heavy.

It says it won't fit with Springfields but it dropped right into my LW champion. The Wilson reverse plug doesn't fit but it's not needed with the one that was in my Springfield.

I would chance it as I'm really happy with mine. Takedown is like with any gi system.

I'd probably stick one of these in the Parody. I think it would fit. But then again, the Atlas 4.25" gun is like the BUL. It is a 5" stroke with .75" chopped off the front end. So maybe it won't work. Or maybe it would work with the factory SA reverse plug.
