I still really want one. No logical reason I can defend it with. But I almost bought yesterday. I am just a sucker for metal-frame polymer guns I guess, I've almost bought the AXG a few times too.

After dealing with the Glock metal frame and the issues that arose with the locking block and with the required buffer, I would be very hesitant to be an early adopter. The good news, unlike the Glock offering, is S&W themselves is doing the frame. Hopefully S&W did not make the same mistakes made with the "Alloy Extreme" Glock.

I handled one the other day and it just didn't feel that much heavier than any other other 4.25" M&P. I'll admit to being intrigued but for $100 less I can get the Spec Series from the same LGS and add a safety to it.

Is there another $100 worth of cool factor in it? I dunno...

    It's only 2 or 3 oz heavier

I recall a time when 5" barreled, metal frame pistols were all the rage...

I made myself not buy it by listing out all the 3.9"-5" service pistols chambered in 9x19 I own already:

    - Glock 17 Gen 4
    - Glock 17 Gen 5
    - Glock 19 Gen 5
    - M&P 2.0 Pro Series 5"
    - M&P 2.0 Compact 4"
    - Sig M17-B 4.7"
    - Sig P2022 4"
    - CZ-75BD 4.7"
    - Beretta 92FS 4.9"
    - Beretta 92A1 4.9"
    - Beretta APX 4.3"

Oh, and then there's the ones I HAVE owned:

    - Glock 19 Gen 4
    - Sig P2022 4" (Stainless)
    - Sig P6 3.9"
    - HK P30 3.9"
    - HK VP9 4.1"
    - Beretta 92S 4.9"
    - Springfield Armory XD 4"
    - CZ PCR 3.75" (a bit under 3.9, honorable mention)
    - Beretta PX4 Compact 3.3" (a bit under 3.9, honorable mention)

What a delightful hobby (addiction) we have. I think I'll focus on buying a house for now, lol.

A 5" competition version of the Metal appears to be leaked in the S&W Metal's owners manual:

Should begin 15:19 for accidental leak:
