Registered Magnum and Model 27 Smith and Wesson revolver questions

I know that the top of the frame and barrel rib were checkered on the Model 27’s. Were the back straps checkered as well, or were they serrated? Anyone know at what LPI they were cut? I’m especially interested in knowing what the LPI was on the back strap was.

    Thanks!

They are serrated ... with six grooves on most of the one's I've seen. I've never seen a factory checkered back strap on those models.

ETA: Interestingly, a quick check of one of my 1980 vintage N-Frames reveals that it has (9) grooves that are much thinner and shallower.

The path of least resistance will seldom get you where you need to be.
