    Sig P226 40 to 9mm conversion

Is it possible to convert a p226 from 40 to 9 with just a simple barrel and recoil spring swap or is that not recommended? I can’t find the 226 caliber xchange kits anywhere. Thanks

barrel and recoil spring won't work. You need the 9mm slide as well.

You could build it using parts. Here are some slide options

I bought an upper from these guys a bit ago for my P229 to convert it to a 9mm red dot gun. They have a MK25 assembly for the 226 right now:

I can't speak to the 226, but I dropped a 9mm conversion barrel into my .40 S&W 229 and it ran fine. Didn't put a lot of rounds through the pistol before trading it, but had no issues. Didn't change mags or springs. YMMV. Conversion barrel was from Bar-sto.

    Sort of. You can’t drop a standard 9mm 226 barrel into a .40 slide.

You need either a complete 9mm slide assembly or a dedicated 40-9 conversion barrel. The 40-9 conversion barrel differs in that it has the external dimensions of .40 cal barrels.

Barsto and others make 40-9 conversion barrels for the SIG 226 and 229.

I have a Barsto 40-9 barrel for my 229. For range purposes it works just fine with the 40 Cal recoil spring and 40 Cal magazines.

For any kind of serious use I would probably just invest in a complete slide assembly.

This exactly, I used to have a PD trade in 226 with a 40-9mm conversion barrel, shot just fine plinking.

I bought a Mk25 slide assembly dirt cheap on sale. Keep an eye out for 226 9mm complete slide assemblies on sale.
