    House Passes "Assault Weapon" Ban

From Older Offspring after a discussion of coffee:

The plain Jane Ruger Mini-14 sales pitch (if it ever passed) - until someone figures out that the Ruger guns are dangerous. Canada and Norway did, given their usage there. Same with the Ruger PCC. What about the new stocked AK pattern gun we discussed awhile ago? Not dangerous?

Empty posturing to manufacture a crisis because we don't have any real ones right now. Something for Dems and Reps to run on to get re-elected.

The bill now heads to the Senate, where it’s not expected to get 60 votes to bypass the filibuster.

Oh, my - when will Scotus actually deal with an AWB. mag case in a clear, unambiguous decision without wandering around the weeds and saying things that actually enable bans. They sent cases back instead of dealing with them, setting up another set of wandering around in Sinai.

They will probably allow bans on sensitive weapons of war with scrumptious scrutiny of historical interest.

A statement such as no Federal, state or local government can ban the possession of any magazine of any capacity or a semi automatic weapon of any configuration of 50 cal or below by law abiding citizens (passing NICS check) is allowed under the 2A

That's it. So it doesn't cover full auto - I can deal with that. No blather about Humford Dumbumble and his 1698 cannon in a wagon.

Pure political theater, aimed at raising campaign cash, just like the fifty-plus times the Republicans tried to repeal the ACA.

    It's going nowhere.

On the local news site they’re calling it a semi-auto weapons ban and saying that all these guns were illegal during AWB I. Make of that what you will, but I don’t think it needs an explanation.

Semi-automatic gun ban passed by House after 18-year lapse
Once banned in the U.S., the high-powered firearms are now widely blamed as the weapon of choice among young men responsible for many of the most devastating mass shootings. But Congress allowed the restrictions first put in place in 1994 on the manufacture and sales of the weapons to expire a decade later, unable to muster the political support to counter the powerful gun lobby and reinstate the weapons ban.

Looks like they went from arbitrary 10 rounds to 15
    https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-...bill/1808/text

The term ‘large capacity ammunition feeding device’—

“(A) means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device, including any such device joined or coupled with another in any manner, that has an overall capacity of, or that can be readily restored, changed, or converted to accept, more than 15 rounds of ammunition
Strive to carry the handgun you would want anywhere, everywhere; forget that good area bullcrap.
"Wouldn't want to / Nobody volunteer to" get shot by _____ is not indicative of quickly incapacitating.

I have not had time to keep up on current events this year, but didn't the Supreme court just rule this exact thing unconstitutional a few weeks ago?

Not this exact thing. The recent scotus case was regarding discretionary carry permits but the 2A underpinnings of that decision have collateral implications for other gun laws.
