    Dangers of Blades

Figured this was the best place to post this for the sake of getting to the largest audience.

Great example for the next time someone asks you why you/a cop would need to shoot someone with a knife. I also just realized this is a great tie-in to some comments I made in a recent medical thread; good luck packing that junctional wound properly with a miniscule 8" strip of hemostatic gauze instead of a properly sized one:

    Another example from recent days...

Action begins about a minute and fifteen seconds in.

There's nothing civil about this war.

Many years ago, I took an edged weapon class. In that class we were shown many pictures of people that were on the wrong end of a knife fight. Those pictures caused me to rethink everything I thought about fighting against someone with a knife. I was thinking being shot would be better for survival. (Of course, except for vital hits. )
With liberty and justice for all...must be 18, void where prohibited, some restrictions may apply, not available in all states.

Instructors I was around, " stab in cut/rip out. Repeat as needed."

Do this on a a animal carcass or roast with even a 2''- 3" blade and look at the wound size.

Also consider a hard stab compresses tissue, particularly in the abdomen, so you may get 2 -3 times the blade length wound depth.

If a stab and cut/rip is done with body mass moving to support the technique, the results are dramatic.

Shooting seems a good response if you can get it done in the time and distance you have. ECQC makes the point you may have to fight your way to a draw and shot.

Escapee from the SF Bay Area now living on the Front Range of Colorado.
Needs to be shown to every airline pilot and flight attendant during recurrent training.

    Thanks for sharing.

Would such a bleed be able to be stopped with hemostatic gauze regardless of size?

Nothing quite as horrifying as the idea of being butchered alive and left to die...

I think I'd rather be shot also.

Humbly submitted to our MD folks:

I’m also curious about the survivability of a wound like that too. Even if you stop the blood loss what percentage of the brain is being starved of oxygen and and what kind of a cognitive outcome would be expected for the patient?

And to think that there are actually people on social media who think a knife is "easy" to defend against....these are brutal to watch and really good reminders of danger.
