What dash number? Open the cylinder and look for a 15-? That’ll help.

Does it have a dash number stamped inside the frame where the cylinder opens?

1949 according to the 3rd edition of the Standard Catalog of S&W.

That is one nice belly gun amigo. I would be proud to own it.

My first issued firearm with my first federal agency in NYC back in the early 80's.
There's nothing civil about this war.

His has got six digits after the K. I’m showing 1967 for the six digit numbers. The ‘49 K#’s had 5 digits.

A beauty either way. I’m jealous. This model 15 is on my “buy immediately if found at a reasonable price” bucket list of guns I have.

I didn't see that. Thanks for the correction. Yeah, still a very nice snubbie in anyone's possession. The 60's were good for everything S&W.

Thanks all. It was given to me by a family friend who had inherited it from her father. She’s not able to shoot it and thought it should go to someone who would take care of it. Now I need to clean it and get some ammo. Here’s the other side of the box.
