I feel like if I didn’t read the book first I would be lost. I think they are rushing parts of the story and not fleshing it out enough.

Chris Pratt is my favorite actor and I know Jack Carr always said that Pratt is who he envisioned as James Reese but I still don’t think he was the best person for this role. That said, his acting is good.

Really like who they chose as “Ben” but I’m NOT digging who they chose as “Kate.” The actress is talented but that’s not how I envisioned Kate at all… Again, if I hadn’t read the books before I may feel different.
Man, you just saved me the trouble of typing. 100 percent concur with the above.

Also, the lack of BJJ found in the books is a bit of a let to me personally—although I admit that the omissions do not detract from the story; probably the least of the omissions, honestly, but that’s my take, in addition to everything you mention above.

2 episodes in, and I'd agree with this assessment. I'm enjoying it, but it's not amazing.

To be honest, I'm not overly enamored with the James Reece series. It's solid, and I pick up the audiobooks when they come out, but I'm kind of "meh" about the character and some of the plot lines. I enjoy the technical aspects of the book (although it goes a little deep into gun porn for even me, sometimes), but I think if that expertise wasn't there, I'd probably give them a miss.

I'm a complete Taylor Kitsch fanboy, solely because he consistently shows excellent gun handling in his roles. Not sure if he's a shooter outside of "work," but his training is definitely above what you typically see in Hollywood, and seems to be more at a Tom Cruise/Keanu Reeves level where they're actually putting in some live-fire reps.

Chris Pratt's trigger discipline has been driving me crazy, particularly while room clearing with a cocked P226, and even more so when he took his finger off the trigger after seeing that a hallway was clear. With the level of technical advisors for this show, and particularly since I believe Pratt is a shooter outside of work, I would expect better.

First I have to admit that I don't own a working TV and I have enjoyed most of the books.

I tried to watch the show on my laptop and it is almost too dark to see anything. I know that OPs happen at night, but I want to see what the actors are doing. I haven't been able to make it out of the tunnel scene in the beginning of episode 1 because I can't see what is going on.

I like the books, but the parts where the author has been there and done that vs. the parts where the author read a wikipedia article on, say, quantum computers, is so stark as to be really painful.

I could be remembering wrong but I think I read somewhere that he trained at Tactical Response a time or two.

Finished all episodes today. I liked it but if nit-picking, I could have done without all the flash-backs and stuff.

I have never read any of the books though.

Same. It looks like it was shot with those gray filters. I saw complaints about that on some other forum. I had trouble with the dark aspect on my tv.

My wife fell soundly asleep during episode one. I almost did too.

I laughed out loud when he crossed out that name in blood. Perfect.

    Overall it was enjoyable enough.

    The end was

So he sails across the Ocean solo with a brain tumor as the world's most wanted man?

I had the same reaction, and the whole series is like that: the cinematography is overly dim, with a washed out color palette of limited contrast that makes it difficult to discern details or track action at some points. I did appreciate the lack of "Bourne Identity" style fight-editing, and in the combat scenes I generally could tell who was who and who was doing what--when there was enough light in the scene to actually discern that something was happening.

Overall, however, I enjoyed the series although, like most "premium television" it contained excessive amounts of filler to bulk-up the run time. Shorn of unnecessarily long scenes, and scenes that do nothing to advance the plot (like the scene where Reece and Edwards are stopped at a road block and the officer runs Edwards' fake ID and... nothing happens), the whole story easily could have been told in two hours, three at the most.

When I think about a story that genuinely takes 6-8 hours of television to tell, I think of "Lonesome Dove." I read "The Terminal List" in substantially less time than it took me to watch the TV series.
