Thread: CR123 EDC Lights - One Cell or Two?

  1. #21
My outdoor home flashlight is a Streamlight ProTac HL 4. It takes 4 123 batteries. This flashlight puts out around 2200 lumens on high output, which is what I use. It didn't take long to figure out I would go broke replacing the batteries. So I went with 18650 LI-ION rechargeable batteries. The light takes 2 of these batteries. I also bought 2 additional batteries that are charged and available when I need to put in fresh rechargeables. This works great for around the house. The 123 batteries have a great shelf-life and are a good option for backup if one is without power at home or elsewhere.

Put me in the camp that single CR123 cell lights are too short.

My current everyday light is the Streamlight Macrostream (not Microstream), which uses a single Streamlight 66321 battery. An 18650 light is doable and what I carried prior (Streamlight 2L-USB, I think it's called), but the Macrostream's length, diameter, and 2oz weight is just a touch more comfortable in a wider range of clothes.
