Duh. Thanks; reading comprehension error. Somehow I saw "Federal" and read "Fiocchi."

I've found Fiocchi's uncoated slugs in general produce fairly low levels of leading. I was given about 500 assorted Fiocchi slugs and I've used a bunch of them for practice without needing to break down and do heavy de-leading.
I found then here for $12.66 per ten, better than a 25% savings:

Now, the remaining question is - has anyone done business with AmmoFreedom?

So…… Unless I missed something what does fowling do to affect a shotgun?

Classic Brenneke work very well; Federal Truball Deep Penetrator (PB127 DPRS) is also decent.

    Most sabot loads suck.

@DocGKR I’m curious about this as well. Have you seen any testing of the Winchester BRI sabot slugs? They seem to offer good accuracy out of smooth bores from some of reviews I’ve seen.

    I'm assuming that's not a wordplay joke.

Lead ends up deposited on the bore of the barrel. If enough of it builds up it starts to impact the patterning of shot loads and even accuracy with slugs. The buildup isn't likely to get bad enough to blow up the barrel or anything, but it does fuck up your patterns.

Example: I had some police officers come to a shotgun class. Their agency had just started to consider using buckshot instead of continuing their tradition of slug-only. (Slug only is common in LE because of liability concerns with buckshot...especially since a lot of police agencies seem to have an absolute hatred of the concept of patterning buckshot) I had him try some Federal Flight Control 8 pellet from my supply and the patterns were pretty terrible. That prompted me to ask questions about his gun and that's when I discovered the slug-only policy.

I sent him home with a couple of boxes and told him to de-lead the barrel and then try patterning again. He reported that it sadly made a huge difference in how the gun patterned. "Sadly" because now somebody had to de-lead the barrels of any shotgun that was going to be used with buckshot. And guess who that was going to be...
