    HYDROGEN FUELED

Saw these articles and thought it was interesting. I personally dont think battery power is going to be the answer.

Hydrogen is a battery, it's just a kind of shitty one.

Series hybrids with turbines spinning generators at high speed as an automotive powerplant is at least a 30-year-old idea.

The go/stop milestone they set was obviously unrealistic to anyone who knows anything about the automotive industry.

The real end of the story is the brother basically took the two key technologies, the turbine and the flywheel, and set up a company each to market them in other applications, with hardly any startup costs for those companies. And cut out of the pie all the brilliant, late-career engineers who had poured themselves into making them viable for several years at Rosen Motors. Pretty dastardly - screwing over his own brother.

Harold Rosen and his wife did a talk at my school when I was close to graduating. The next day, the econ prof explained the business side of that situation. Words I'll never forget:

The people who control the money kick the asses of the technical people 100 percent of the time.

I wrote my senior thesis on Hydrogen fuel back in the mid '80s. Cogeneration through combustion. I'm still enthusiastic about Hydrogen fuel but my crystal ball is murky on the how.

You'll never get a battery to charge in the same 5 minutes as a "fill up" and I chuckle at the condescending twits driving plug in electrics thinking they're "Green".

Too bad we're giving tax credits for electrics instead of investing that money into university and national lab primary and DARPA Hydrogen research.

What do you think the future of vehicle propulsion will be?

I saw a video China I guess you pulled into a station and it automatically swapped to a charged battery. But yes the whole battery thing cracks me up. I wanna know who is going to install and maintain all these chargers and wheres the power coming from for the just home from work power surge.

ETA anyway I posted originally because I thought the Aston Aerospace motor seemed really cool. If you havent read it I think its worthwhile.

Not very bright but does lack ambition
As a total layman, I’ve always thought the killer app will be a commercially viable hydrogen fuel cell that drives the vehicle’s electric motors and also charges a battery for oomph - similar to how a Chevy Volt worked. Hydrogen infrastructure will be the issue.
