Don't Shoot to Kill - Israeli Perspective for Americans?

    Saw this: https://www.timesofisrael.com/new-is...t-not-to-kill/

Cited for discussion without an opinion from me. Lots in article. When not to target COM, unchambered carry, social implications and situation for deadly vs. less likely to be deadly firearms usage. What is a deadly threat, necessitating lethal force as compared to other situations. Too much to summarize.

Certainly not what was emphasized for me in classes. Quite different.

In Israel, police officers are trained to use firearms in only two situations, according to Chief Superintendent Evgeny Shteyman, head of the Operational Competency Section at the Training Division of the Israel Police. The first is when officers witness an attack that poses an imminent risk to an officer’s or a civilian’s life, like an active shooter. The second is when a suspect is in the middle of committing a dangerous crime. In the latter, police only target the suspect’s legs.
How is that not "using lethal force when lethal force is not warranted?"

And the fact that the "green zone" on their training target includes the femoral arteries says enough about the ignorance behind this.

How is that lawsuit going to go when policy is to shoot the guy in the leg so you don't kill him and he bled out before the officers could call dispatch to get an ambulance on the way?

This cropped up last year with posts by me and Glenn and a bunch of others.

I don't see where I mentioned the old Austrian police target shown by Jan Stevenson in The Handgunner, Ltd. which had scoring rings centered on a running figure's knee.

I doubt they have taken my advice to run it with Simunitions on a real maneuvering assailant.

    Quick summary:
    • Unethical or unqualified trainers are going to make money
    • More people are going to file lawsuits when bad guys are killed by police
    • More good LEOs are going to decide to do something else
    • Innocent people are going to get killed as a direct result of this idiocy

    Did I miss anything?

    Shoot to stop.
Any other effects, they brought it on themselves.
Strive to carry the handgun you would want anywhere, everywhere; forget that good area bullcrap.
"Wouldn't want to / Nobody volunteer to" get shot by _____ is not indicative of quickly incapacitating.

I think I read someplace that only about 18% of the rounds fired by our police hit their intended target during a shooting. If that's true this is a really bad idea.

Maybe Israel cops have more training or experience in real life gun fights. Or maybe they don't get sued everytime they shoot someone.....regardless of the situation.

IDK because I'm not LE nor have I ever been involved in a shooting.
