Gear: belts, holsters, mag carriers et.

Hi guys, I'm Danko. I just joined the site. I visited several times and find there's a lot of fun and information going on in here. I want in on it. My first question is there a gear section somewhere on the site? I'm looking for some type of range holster for an M&P 9mm 4.25 " and a belt as well. There are so many freakin' brands and types of equipment available an old guy like me can easily become lost. It took me 3-4 days to decide on and order electronic ear protection.

I'm 65 years old, been shooting for three years at an indoor range, but need to up my shooting with new and better stuff.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Danko--

    Danko:

I have attached links to a very basic OUTSIDE the waist band holster (OWB) that would be suitable for range work. It is made out of plastic so that it is fast, secure and will not collapse when you go to reholster. The downside to plastic holsters is that they can be a bit harder on the finish of a gun than leather. I have linked size 9 (SW M&P)and presumed you were right handed.

Holster on sale at 15 ish shipped max)

    https://www.amazon.com/Uncle-Mikes-T...-21&th=1&psc=1

Here is a double mag pouch that will work for your intended use as well.

    https://www.amazon.com/Uncle-Mikes-O...ps%2C86&sr=8-4
    (25 ish shipped max)

Belt. For OWB and Range Work, a Wilderness 5 stitch belt/1.5 inches wide will be just fine. I am recommending this model over the orignal because you do not likely need a buckle system that you could emergency rappel with. I am not recommending one our site sponsors because their belts are self described as being optimized for INSIDE the waistband carry. 45ish shipped

I have used all of the recommended items in range/training/class settings over thousands of rounds with both Glock and 1911 platforms. They now serve as my "loaner" gear when I am with a new shooter. My recommendations exceed the intersection of quality/performance/value. I went with Amazon where I could because they ship fast and take stuff back rather easily.

As you have stated, there are hundreds of choices. The ones I have recommended will work until you may decide you want something else.

If you are a price is no object, buy top quality kind of guy for your hobbies/interests right off the bat, I can make a different recommendations. Sometimes the ships time can be longer than with others.

Thank you for your input. I can't afford top notch equipment, but certainly don't want to buy junk. It's costly and annoying as hell to keep buying items until you find the right one. We've all been on that road buying anything.

The 1.5" belt recommendation is a good one, that is normally the default size for holster loops and it will fit most pants loops.

I recently purchased a PJ Holster, which is fairly inexpensive and works well as a range holster https://pjholster.com/t/outside-waistband-holster

On a budget, I'd pair that with a 5-stitch Wilderness Frequent Flyer belt https://www.thewilderness.com/belts/...nt-flyer-belt/
    - pay attention to their belt sizing instructions. They may seem odd, but they work. Don't order your jeans waist size, the belt won't fit.

I also have nice kydex holsters from Dale Fricke and Garrett Industries, but they are a little more expensive.

The Wilderness belts would be my recommendation as well. I’ve had one of the original 5 Stitch instructor belts with the big metal harness buckle for nearly 20 years and it’s served me well. A year or two ago I wanted something a little lower profile for EDC and got their EDC belt. For my uses I love this even more than the first and I find the buckle system to be more conducive to every day wear than the Frequent Flyer.

For a range holster, I’ve had good success with Blade-Tech, Comp-Tac, and Safariland. All my concealment gear is made by JM Custom Kydex, who is also a site sponsor.

Thank you for kicking in some suggestions. I think I looked at nearly every brand of belt and holster on the market. I just ordered a 511 belt and the cheap Uncle Mike's holster the first responder suggested. Once I have that holster I'll get a better idea of what I need and won't go broke replacing it. Like most people I don't mind paying up a little if I'm getting a decent quality product, but again, like most people, I really hate wasting money on junk. But, the most important thing is I'm having fun!

    Danko

I just order the Uncle Mike holster. It looks like it will meet my need just fine, and It's certainly worth a try at that price.

    Thanks again, Danko--
