    Snippet:

On Tuesday, Bortac agents heard a call on local police radio about the shooting at Robb Elementary and were among the first to respond, according to officials.

Bortac agents typically carry their gear, such as helmets, tactical vests and shields, in their cars, according to officials familiar with the unit.

When the call came in on Tuesday, dozens of Border Patrol agents, ultimately totaling about 80 rushed to the school, according to an agency official.

Initially, the Bortac agents couldn’t get into the classroom because of a steel door and cinder block construction, according to law-enforcement officials familiar with what happened. Meanwhile, the gunman, an 18 year-old named Salvador Ramos, shot at them through the door and walls.

The Bortac agents got a master key from the school principal that allowed them to enter the room, according to the officials. One Bortac agent’s shield was hit by rounds upon entering and a second agent was wounded by shrapnel. A third killed the suspect.

Will this likely change the current SOP of locking the students up?
That's not the only part of the SOP. (I've been through a few active shooter drills)

There is a "fight or flee" component, but it depends on an adult making the decision to do it.

There wasn't much guidance provided on when to go to that strategy.

The possibility of multiple shooters setting up a kill zone outside exits will probably keep the SOP as it is.

Whatever I am, I'm not tough. However, I'm not afraid of engaging other people in necessary but unpleasant dialogues. Part of my success has been a genuine concern with making an effort not to offend.

I've never saw one person buy a gun for an ineligible person when both are present. That would be a straw purchase. When the ineligible person is not present, is that a straw purchase? Remember that in these events I profiled the individuals by assuming that one was ineligible. I based the profile on experience, and some would say I stereotyped these persons based on their minority status. Yes. I did stereotype.

5 states to introduce AG legislation.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom and top Democratic state lawmakers said at an event Wednesday they plan to quickly pass more than a dozen proposals aimed at curbing gun violence, including one allowing private citizens to sue gun manufacturers, which was written in response to Texas abortion restrictions allowing lawsuits against abortion clinics and providers.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul called on lawmakers to pass a ban on the sale of assault weapons to residents under 21, calling such action "just common sense”, though it’s unclear at this point if leaders of the state’s Democratic-controlled legislature support the moves.

In Pennsylvania, Gov. Tom Wolf asked lawmakers to pass legislation requiring background checks on all gun sales and called for the creation of a state "red flag law," allowing a court to temporarily bar someone from possessing firearms if they are believed to be a present danger, but new restrictions are likely a longshot to pass the state’s Republican-controlled legislature.

In a speech Wednesday, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said Republicans were taking "blood money" by not supporting stricter gun control, calling for the state legislature to pass a "comprehensive gun safety" package requiring residents to take safety courses before buying guns, among other new restrictions.

Rhode Island Gov. Daniel McKee urged the state’s heavily Democratic legislature to pass new restrictions, such as a ban on assault rifles and high-capacity magazines. Forbes
I doubt that we get anymore here in WA. We have more than most states already. PA looks like the big loser here if they pull it off.

Spotting straw purchases or suspected straw purchases is one thing successfully prosecuting them is another. They can be difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt hence the reason why Manny individual straw purchase cases or not prosecuted in favor of targeting offenders making multiple purchases.

Somebody has to tend to the potbelly stove in the corner and scratch behind the ears of the shop mascot.

I worked in a gun shop, the hang arounds aren't as welcome as they often think they are.

How do you fight in a crisis situation with zero training in fighting? And zero experience?

    That's most folks in education.

The "fight" part of active shooter training I have seen is "well at some point, you should fight."

    Useless.

My district can't even manage to get folks who deal with severely disturbed kids to have actual hands on training in the method of very limited combatives we're supposed to use to restrain them. We had a sad virtual session where our behavior specialist (a woman I like, she's pursued some combatives on her own) tried to school us. I shared a bunch, she provided intelligent concepts--that was about it. No actual drills or anything else. At least I have a clue about what I am *supposed* to do to be in the legal clear.

(I've used joint locks on elementary kids. I had nothing else in my tool box.)

Our schools are collapsing in all dimensions. The training for many things is pure CYA, because that's all we have resources for, and all the higher ups give a damn about. And everything is checklists with sub-checklists that leave no time for any actual learning.

And all that reminds me I am way overdue to post a question to Combatives...

I've run into some strange dudes hangin' around in a gun shop.

Here in WA hangin' around the gunshop just ain't what it used to be.

True story. I was buying a pistol once and bumped into a co-worker. He said "I didn't know you were a shooter". I said it looks like it's working.
