My favorite for practical application are the old Uncle Mikes rubber. Can still be found on ebay or gun joker

I have a square butt 686-1, and my favorite grips in the whole wide world are....

    Wood
Hogue fringer groove grips, mine are Goncalo Alves, if memory serves me correctly. Rubber Hogues fit my hand well enough to get me started, but I overheated the hell out of that gun at a bowling pin match (hot handloads with TiteGroup) and actually warped the plastic shell the rubber coating is attached to. I couldn't seem to miss fast enough that day to catch up, and the guy I was going up against had the same problem. I think we both fired and reloaded around 18 rounds in about 15 or more seconds. I ended up losing by a fraction of a second, which I so richly deserved.

So I ordered a set of wood grips to match, and haven't been without them since. If I had to do it over, I'd probably order a set of wood single finger groove grips.

Go ahead and laugh. I know Hogue isn't terribly popular here, but it works for me.

I doubt anyone is going to laugh, use whatever works for you.

Ive had a couple sets but they didnt really feel good to me. The rubber bantams needed some of the filler behind the trigger guard removed to lower the gun somewhat for me, then the finger grooves didnt work....ground them off, and they arent too bad now.

I should have added that Hogue wood grips fit my hands than their plastic & rubber offerings. I don't believe they are axact duplicate of each other, but then again, my grips could have been made on a Friday or something.
