Judicial Abuse:WV CO’s Arrested for Doing Their Jobs

Are Judges in WV elected or appointed?

The inmate being transported by the officers had been involved in a physical altercation in jail prior to the transport. Upon seeing the inmates injuries, the judge ordered the two transporting officers to return the inmate to a different jail, rather than the one in which she was already incarcerated. One of the officers responded that he would have to call his supervisor first. The judge then “summarily ordered both of them taken into custody and incarcerated for civil contempt.” He then “ordered the prosecutor to ‘right quickly prepare an Order’ stating that the officers had ‘refused to abide by the court order.'” However, the officers never refused. One officer said nothing. The other never refused, but correctly responded that he would have to call his supervisor, according to state policy.

The officers were escorted from the courtroom, taken into custody and detained. They were required to surrender their weapons to deputies, permitted to call their supervisors and relay a situation report. They were then taken to the county holding facility. While there, the officers were subject to strip searches. Their badges, shoestrings, wallets and watches were confiscated. Following the strip searches, the officers were directed to put their uniforms back on and were told that they were going to be placed in uniform in a cell with six inmates. At some point during all of this, they were also handcuffed….

I read this earlier today, and thought about responding several times. Now that I'm in the KMA club I have definitely developed an @JodyH "Fuck you. Make me." attitude toward some of the more outrageous abuses of power by certain officials. I've had to pump the breaks on overreach a few times in 30 years. It's important to be right.....and KNOW why you're right...if you're gonna stand up to this kind of crazy bullshit.

Looking at the whole event, it is astounding how no one involved in the entire process at any point said "Uhhh.....no. We're not gonna do that." That is some fucked up shit right there.

Unfortunately, the first person to say "Uuuuh no" only said he had to contact his supervisor and both he and his silent partner got locked up and, in my opinion, treated pretty recklessly as they were put in a cell with other prisoners while wearing their uniforms. Given the judge's outrageous conduct in this case, I suspect he rules the courthouse like Putin rules Russia.

I'm glad he was "admonished" by the state judicial board, but he might consider that a badge of honor.

    The rule of law...

    Yeah...right.

So glad to have escaped relatively unscathed.
There's nothing civil about this war.

That was my point. The stupid behavior of everyone else involved in this process, and how they treated these COs. What the fuck is wrong with everybody in that county?

Beyond the stupid black dress wearing lawyer, the sheer egregiousness of placing uniformed Deputies in a cell with 6 other inmates smacks of something much darker.
Even the benighted jail I just left had policies and procedures preventing this kind of thing.
Was it me, I might be paying those fellows a visit to discuss my thoughts on their behavior...damn a lawsuit.
