    Beretta BRX-1

    Saw this yesterday

Never had the opportunity to shoot a push-pull, or straight pull rifle. Seems to me that every few years a company will introduce 1 with a lot of fanfare but then it makes absolutely no Splash in the water at all.

These seem like a great 'upgrade' and all but doesn't the straight pull really invite the action getting opened in the field by snagging or brush/debris compared to a bolt which requires an uplift before pull? I'm interested but the price point is steep enough that I don't see these making a big splash here stateside.

I know that at least on Savage Impulse straight-pull the tang safety blocks the bolt too. Kind of like 1911.

The BRX-1 has a three position safety that locks the handle as well.

So how does that affect weapon manipulation under stress, having three positions rather than two? Seems problematic though I have no experience here to speak from.

Considering that such a prolific portion of bolt action rifles that have been made in history, including those used in combat, have a three position safety that locks the bolt, I think it will be fine. This is the first time I have ever heard it referenced as a concern.

Not to mention that the safety come off from either of the safe positions with the exact same motion…

What are you hunting that you get so stressed out?

Bolt guns never make my heart race. That one sort of does. I think I'd want it in a 6.XX caliber though which will happen eventually if it comes stateside at some point.

In the case of all Savage rifles I am aware of the bolt unlock position is just a halfway stop on the safety so not like ane either/or.

Kind of OT, but any idea of how popular 6.5CM, or PRC is in Europe for hunting?

Not really no. I'm figuring a year from now if they're available here they'll eventually include it. But maybe the other new 6mm for SOCOM will be the hotness at that point. I need to buy time anyway.
