That stuff works better on metal. I have some you can use.
Painted polymer will, ime, never get back to normal.
Let me know if you want to try it.
I've used "Goof Off" with good success on AR furniture and rails. It's an aerosol so you have to put some scrubbing elbow grease into it but it works well, in my experience. My local Lowe's carries it.
