Thread: Check those mounts!

Has anyone ever tried bedding an optic plate like you bed a scope rail? Use something like devcon to bed the bottom of the plate to the slide?

During the bedding process you use a release agent to prevent the putty from bonding the plate to the slide.

You would end up with a removable plate that is a perfect fit to the slide cut.

Just for clarification, my STI came with the HOST cut, not the DUO cut. Not sure what the differences are.

Currently I use E6000 on a lot of stuff that I want vibration resistance.

Anything that get micro rub wear or shakes loose.

For mounting plates I basically use a thin layer with special attention to mating surfaces and bosses.

I usually just use the tube mouth to smear the layer as I squeeze but I have used toothpicks and small screwdrivers as applicators and spatula.

Usually 24 hours of cure is more than sufficient.
While I'm waiting on my red dot to come in, I've done some experiments with some large metal washers and the E6000.

How do you get the adapter plate off? I used a couple of small drops from a torn pick and those washers are welded together.

It’s like rubber cement. Don’t go crazy with it. A little goes a long way.

You can twist it or wedge and lift it.

I often will use a razor blade to get it started.

But seriously. Don’t go crazy with it.

I used a toothpick and it was only a two drops. I will continue to experiment, my RDS is on backorder and should be here in a couple of weeks so I will be able to get the right amount dialed in by then.

I'll try the razor blade trick.

My original tube was 3 oz and I think that’s probably too large, lol.

My next are mini tubes but probably too small.

I think the 2 oz industrial strength is just right.
