It seems my Blackhawk likes 180 grain XTPs...

    And 12 grains of 2400:

That was benched at 25 yards on the indoor range. That shanked shot in the 8 ring is on me (and the goober who started mag dumping his AR on the lane immediately to my left when I touched that shot off). Not sure what sort of velocity I'm at with that load, I'll have to chronograph it. The gun is a 5.5" flat top convertible model. Pretty sure that'd put a hole in a muley buck just fine.

It certainly does appear to like that load.

Yes, yes it does. Tree-fiddy-seven I presume?

The 180 XTP is an excellent bullet, I’ve used it for years in IHMSA competition in my .357 Maximum Blackhawk.

Seems like a huge waste of paper to me. Next time you could use a sticky note with room to spare.

Yes, sorry I didn't make that clear.

I had loaded a few rounds at 11.5, 11.7, and 12.0 grains, seating to the cannelure. This batch of bullets only has one. I guess they used to have two cannelures. I'm not sure if that is a recent change with Hornady. The 11.5gr batch shot a nice ~2" group or so, and I was pretty tickled. Those cases literally fell out of the gun, no ejector rod needed. Same with the 11.7 grains. 12.0 grouped the best, and the cases were still very easy to eject/extract. I think I could still push the charge up some. I don't know if I'd feed the 12.0 load to my Smith 60-10, but maybe after I get some velocity numbers.

I also have loaded a shot some Missouri Bullets 180gr WFN "Pugnose" bullets. They actually weigh closer to ~187 grains, and seem to produce more pressure with similar charges as the XTP's. I'm not getting quite the same accuracy with those, but they are certainly good enough to be functional, with around 3" groups @ 25 yards. I need to tinker more with those.

I've always heard that the ~180gr weight range bullets usually shoot very well. Now I know.

Thanks for that. Seems like 12.0gr with the XTP should maybe be pushing on 1200fps or so for me. I need to chrono some loads soon.
